Relationships Arguably Could Be The Most Important...
Relationships arguably could be the most important development in peopleââ¬â¢s lives. The happiness, love, support and security relationships bring along with them provides a person with a sense of purpose and value. Whether that is in the form of having a child to care for or simply give one the security of companionship, relationships for many are a primary source of giving life significance through further developing an individualââ¬â¢s identity (thoughts, actions, behaviors). After all, even from an evolutionary standpoint, the existence of relationships occurs in order to perpetuate the cycle of human life and reproduction through bonding. Now, despite the major role relationships play within peopleââ¬â¢s lives, failure to not only recognize, butâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I have always been secure attachment style, but bordering the line of exercising dismissive characteristics. Surprisingly, the most recent attachment style analysis I took classified me as a dismis sive. While I am open to communication I have a tendency to not fully self-disclose to others. Revealing just enough personal information, while simultaneously keeping people an armââ¬â¢s length away is my specialty. Furthermore, I invest just enough self-disclosure to build trust within the relationship, but conceal enough that reinforces my feeling of self-autonomy. However, as I looked at the current relationships within my life I noticed these dismissive characteristics are more prominent in my romantic relationships. The closer a partner and I become the more I find the need to distant myself to the point where the relationship comes to an end. I tend to focus more on being witty, charming, and quirky to avoid having to reveal anything personal or intimate about myself. Conversely, though within my friendships I initiate and advocate disclosure to better maintain our relationship. When it comes down to it, interdependence within friendships is less intimidating to me than in romantic relationships because I fear a loss of independence. Personally, I believe autonomy is experienced differently among the various types of relationships.
